Koninginnenacht and the nightclub Rain

In Amsterdam the street is filled with people for Koninginnenacht, or the night before Queen’s day. I met a couple cool girls who unfortunately had another agenda that night.

My friend Sjoerd (or Stuart for English speakers) played the saxophone at Rain last night. It was a good time – met the owner of the bar, Bas – but we had to reserve a little for today, Koninginnedag.

Palladium on the Leidseplein

It’s April 29th, the day before Queen’s Day, and Amsterdam is humming. We stopped by the upscale bar Palladium on the Leidsplein to say hi to some ladies.

…and I took a photo with some of them:

Leiden – City Hall

My schedule has been stuffed with club events since I arrived, but I slept on Friday night after my flight. Since then I’ve been trying to figure out how to get my damn car. It looks like the port is closed for the weekend (Europeans are like that, they take time out for life). And since Monday is Koninginnedag (Queen’s Day) it looks like the soonest I’ll get my car is Tuesday. However, the unloading agent said I need car insurance to receive my car. And I’ve had a hell of a time trying to figure that out.

Anyway, Saturday night we graced the club of City Hall in Leiden with our presence. ;-)

Bad and Good Flight to Amsterdam

I’ve got some good and bad news to report about my flight to Amsterdam. First, the bad news. My sweet friend Rose, after dropping me off at the airport, totalled her car as soon as she got on the freeway.

The good news is that on the way over here I met a nice stewardess, Susie, who I hope to meet up with somewhere later on my trip. In the video below, Sjoerd tells us about Queen’s Day.

The Weekend Before Blastoff

This past Friday night I headed up to Penthouse for the first time. The bar has an outstanding atmosphere overlooking Los Angeles and the ocean. I met some good friends up there and had such a good time that I went back on Saturday night. Here’s a video from Friday night.

Saturday afternoon I tasted some incredible wines with Ian Blackburn from Learn About Wine. Then headed to Santa Monica beach. After that I almost didn’t want to leave for my trip.

On Saturday night I had some dinner at Penthouse with some friends. When I was at the bar I saw who I thought was my waitress dressed in different clothes and walking with her friend as if she was a patron. I thought, “That’s strange”, and grabbed her arm to ask for a drink. When she looked at me and asked, “Yes?”, I thought, “That can’t be my waitress”, and said, “Nevermind”. My friend said I should introduce myself, which I did. After she left my friend explained to me who it was, so I apologized when she passed by again. She joked, “Alright, Roel.” I replied, “OK, Jennifer.”

I’m not much of one for asking for photos with celebs, but I figured just one to start off Europeanparty.com right wouldn’t hurt. I’m glad I did. Jennifer was the coolest person at the bar! Oh, and my waitress was very cool too.
